Revamping of Kilembe mines in Kasese municipality remains in balance after the cores or mineral sample tests that were carried out by the Canadians in 1952 went missing.
With the government committed to revamp the works at Kilembe Mines Limited, absence and or mismanagement of some import resources have also retarded the entire process.
During her visit to Kilembe on Friday, October 23, 2020, the State Minister for Mineral Development Sarah Opendi realized that the stores intended to keep cores were empty which threatens the revamping process.
According to the Minister, the cores that went missing have been confirmed not having been destroyed during the floods in May this year and an inter-ministerial team has already been set to establish details and release the outcomes on this matter.
The chief executive officer for Kilembe Mines, Mr. Kyakonye Weraga confirmed the missing of the mineral samples, saying that cores were dumped by TIBET Hima Mining Company during their time.
Weraga however says the core logs or mineral samples were used for verification whenever they could get an investor.
