Residents of Kitagwenda have expressed joy and excitement yesterday after the Tooro Kingdom in partnership with MTN Uganda, hosted the bicycle race in their county Kabujogera town council Kitagwenda.
About the Activitity
The bicycle race program, is the Kingdom’s initiative to support sports talents, bring subjects together and at the same time create the deadly HIV AIDs awareness within the Kingdom.
Yesterday’s race, attracted a total of 26 riders, including nineteen [19] manual bike riders and seven [7] Sports bikes riders.
These, manouvered riding a distance of 30 Km, from Kabujogera town council to Ntara and back, passing through uneasy roads of the area.
Leaders Hail the Cause
Obadiah Mwijuka , the Tooro Kingdom County Chief Kitagwenda[Owisaza], lauded MTN for sponsoring the Kingdom activities specifically the sports, which reminds them of the cherished moments when King Oyo’s Father king Patrick David Kaboyo olimi III Visited the same area and played foot ball with pupils at Ntuntu primary school.

Joseph Ruwheza, the Kabujogera town council Chair person, implored the youth to embrace this initiative as a way of doing a way with redundancy and its related harmful temptations.
Aggrey Byaruhanga, the MTN Regional Marketing Manager, implored the youth to join the cause of the Kingdom sports activities and continue publicizing the need to actively engage in ending HIV/ AIDs completely by 2030.
He noted that as MTN, they are willing to offer the necessary support in pushing the health campaigns of Tooro Kingdom forward.
Byaruhanga on the Masaza Race
Ismael Mushemeza, the Kitagwenda district Chairperson, lauded Tooro Kingdom for equally expanding services to the entire Kingdom, but urged the area residents to borrow a leaf of the Baganda and own their Kingdom always by engaging in the Kingdom activities.
Mushemeza further revealed plans by the government to construct a sports center in Kitagwenda as a way of boosting the co curricular activities within their area.
With this, he tasked the youth to realize their talents and promote them for future benefits.
Winners of the day
Meanwhile, Lauben Barekyeraho emerged the overall winner of ordinary bicycle and Joshua Mugume came first in the sports bike race.

Kato Crispus 66 was identified as the Eldest of the riders whereas Mabel Rukundo was recognized as only female participant.
In a brief interview with last year’s winner, Vincent Tumwebaze who also came second of yesterday’s race, said the 500000 Shs he received from MTN helped him to cater for his health and also taking his small business forward.
