The LC1 and LC2 Chairpersons in Fort Portal City are divided over a proposal to divert their monthly emoluments to buy road equipment for the city.
According to the City Mayor, the local leaders had agreed that their emoluments for the 2026-2027 financial year be used to buy road equipment, after the government failed to provide it, which has led to a poor road network in the city.
However, during the induction meeting and of LC1s and LC2s from the 300 zones in the city, and swearing ceremony for the special interests groups that was held today the new Fort View Hotel in Fort Portal, some of the LC1 and LC2 chairpersons have disagreed with the resolution, saying the money is too little to sacrifice.
Others say that they were not consulted by the authorities, thus if their money is to be touched, even the top leaders including MPs, mayors and councilors should be deducted. However, some of the chairpersons said that the city should use their money if it’s the only way that is going to solve Road problems in the city.
Meanwhile, the mayor Fort Portal city Rev. Kintu Willy Muhanga Ateenyi disclosed that early this year, the chairpersons from both divisions North, Central anonymously agreed that their emoluments should be used after thorough consultations.
The meeting that was attended by the chairperson NRM Mrs. Clare Kasande, encouraged the chairpersons to prioritize the gospel of spreading the government programs to the people for them to benefit.
