Parents have been urged to closely supervise their children during the school holidays.
The warning earlier came from the Fort Portals Diocesan Inspector of Schools, Rev.Fr. Andrew Isingoma as P.7 and S.4 candidates complete UNEB examinations today. He said that unsupervised time can expose school leavers to risky relationships and negative peer influence.
Fr Isingoma’s message comes amid the increased challenges facing the young population fading respect for culture, disobedience to parents, risky behaviour, misuse of technology, and early romantic relationships.
He encouraged parents to spend quality time with their children, guide them closely, and keep them busy with productive work, so that idle minds do not drift into reckless behaviour.
The priest also appealed to the candidates to cooperate with their parents and take part in income-generating activities at home which will later help them prepare financially for their next level of education.
The call was backed by Mr Patrick Ategeka, Principal City Education Officer for Fort Portal City, who congratulated the candidates on reaching this milestone. He urged them not to relax during the holidays, to engage in productive work, and to listen to their parents.
Mr Ategeka reminded parents that teachers have done their part in raising and guiding the candidates at their schools asking the parents to take up the same responsibility at home by teaching children their culture, involving them in work, and preparing them mentally to live positively.
Speaking to Jubilee Radio, Mr Ategeka confirmed that Fort Portal has completed the PLE exercise successfully, with no major hindrances.
