Thomas Kakuru the coordinator for people power pressure group and National Unity Platform political party in Tooro sub-region has missed being nominated as Fort-portal North Member of Parliament citing financial implications
Nomination exercise for candidates vying for parliamentary positions started Thursday and closed Yesterday Friday at exactly 05:00pm across the country
Shortly after the exercise had closed Kakuru in a letter dated 16th October 2020 which he distributed to reporters indicated that being a youthful aspirant it has been difficult for him to raise the 3million shillings required by the electro commission before being nominated
Part of his letter reads that, I regret to Inform you that, due to the prevailing hiccups especially with regard to the sky high upfront financial demands that young & upcoming leaders like me are expected to lay down before being accepted into the political leadership arena, I have been unable to be nominated to run for Fort Portal North Member of Parliament seat.
The letter added that financial criteria that have been used as a means to test whether one is accepted to contest in our democracy is a direct assault on all the Youth in the country who wants to make a difference to the lives of other young people in this country. It is meant to exclude Youth from fair representation and participation in the democratic leadership process it added.
