It was all joy and thanksgiving at Virika Cathedral as the Diocese of Fort Portal celebrated the Silver Jubilee of priestly service for Fr. Macarius Kabyogamu and Fr. Adolf Ludigo Mumanzi, who both hail from Holy Trinity Kitagwenda Parish.
Held on Saturday September 27, 2025The celebration began with a solemn Holy Mass, co-celebrated by the Jubilarians themselves and brought together distinguished guests, including Christians, clergy, religious, and relatives from near and far who came to honor the two priests’ 25 years of dedicated ministry.
Call to trust in God
In his homily, Rev. Fr. Bernard Bitekerezo, the Parish Priest of Butiiti, where Fr. Mumanzi currently serves, praised the Jubilarians for their perseverance, courage, and commitment to their priestly calling.
Drawing inspiration from the day’s scripture readings, Fr Bitekerezo reflected on Moses’ trust in God when tasked with leading the Israelites to the Promised Land, urging the Jubilarians to continue placing their trust in God, deepen their prayer life before the Blessed Sacrament, and work tirelessly for peace in today’s troubled world.
He also encouraged them to serve with humility, remain focused on their core mission, and continue contributing to the spiritual and socio-economic development of the communities they serve.
Later, at a gathering held at the Bishop’s House, Rev. Fr. Macarius Kabyogamu, who serves at Bukwali Parish, expressed thanks to the Bishop, fellow priests, family, and faithful who have supported him throughout his 25-year journey. He requested continued prayers as he looks ahead with courage and commitment to the years to come.
Fr. Adolf Ludigo Mumanzi equally expressed words of gratitude, thanking everyone who has supported and walked with them in answering the Lord’s call. He too called for ongoing prayers and renewed strength as they continue in their pastoral mission.
Celebrated Educationists
Bishop Robert Muhiirwa, acknowledged Fr. Kabyogamu for using his talents in teaching, counseling, and healing, as well as Fr. Mumanzi for his steadfast support of education, particularly his notable work at Sts. Peter and Paul’s Primary School, Rosa Mystica Institute, and in Butiiti. He urged them to maintain a clean image infront of God and the people they are serving.
Having celebrated his own 40th anniversary in the priesthood this year, His Lordship Muhiirwa offered wise counsel to the silver jubilarians, encouraging them to prioritize their health as they look toward their golden jubilee.
He stressed the importance of maintaining both spiritual and physical well-being as they continue God’s work.
