Owned by the Congregation of Banyatereza Sisters, St. Theresa Girls’ Senior Secondary School, Nyamigisa–Masindi has marked its golden jubilee with a call to deepen prayer, cultivate determination, and emulate the virtues of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus, who died at 24.
Presiding at the thanksgiving Mass yesterday on what was also celebrated as the feast day of St.Therese of the Children Jesus, Rt. Rev. Vincent Kirabo Amooti, Bishop of Hoima Diocese, urged students to live purposefully, pursue holiness, and nurture friendship with Jesus. He also stressed academic excellence, entrepreneurship, professionalism, and vision among the students and teachers.
The Bishop thanked the Ministry of Education for supporting girl-child empowerment and hailed the school’s role in advancing education in the diocese.
He paid tribute to the founders, including Rt. Rev. Edward Baharagate, Msgr. Augustine Mukumbya, Sr. Catherine (Banyatereza Sisters), past Headteachers, among others.
The golden jubilee held under the theme “Thanking God for 50 Years of Excellence, Nurturing and Giving Hope to the Girl Child,” included a fundraising drive to raise UGX 1.3 billion for new facilities—administration block, computer rooms, library, classrooms, tailoring workshop, and archive.
Rev. Sr. Angela Mukabaganyizi Headteacher, noted challenges such as classroom shortages, lack of a modern administration block, amon others.
Representing the Prime Minister, Akugizibwe Aled Ronald, MP for Buruli County, congratulated the school and pledged government support. The event drew religious leaders, politicians, business community, parents, and well-wishers.
