As the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) commences nationwide briefings for Senior Four candidates, hundreds of students in Fort Portal City today have completed their first paper, also known as the briefing session, ahead of the written examinations scheduled to begin next week.
Across various schools in the tourism city and Kabarole District, supervisors called for discipline, honesty, and the need to avoid examination malpractice throughout the examination period.
At St. Maria Goretti Girls’ Secondary School, 123 candidates attended the briefing; St. Leo’s College Kyegobe registered 62 candidates; St. Mary’s Minor Seminary Virika had 46 candidates; while Fort Portal Secondary School had 113 candidates in attendance, 254 at Divine Mercy, Over 400 at Mpanga Secondary school among others.

Mr. Patrick Ategeka, the Fort Portal City Inspector of Schools, noted that 3,043 candidates have been registered to sit for the 2025 UCE examinations in 24 examination centers across the city. He urged school heads to provide a conducive environment for candidates and cautioned them against sending students to look for school fees during the examination period.
Mr. Ategeka also appealed to parents to adequately support their children with necessary scholastic materials and other basic needs to ensure smooth examinations.
Mr. Trophy Atuhairwe, the area supervisor for Fort Portal and Kabarole (Station 069), confirmed that the briefing exercise had concluded smoothly at his school, with 62 candidates in good health and high spirits, adding that reports from other schools indicated similarly successful and peaceful sessions.

Meanwhile, Mugabo Rocky, a Senior Four candidate at St. Leo’s College Kyegobe, expressed readiness for the forthcoming examinations, saying they had thoroughly revised. He, however, noted some concerns about the science practicals but expressed confidence in God for good results.
Last month, UNEB confirmed an increase in the number of UCE candidates nationwide, with a total of 432,025 candidates, representing a 12.1% rise from last year’s candidate population.
