Residents of Nkarakara Cell in Rubaba Ward, Kahunge Town Council, Kamwenge District, are still in shock after a man believed to have mental health problems killed his own daughter before being lynched by an angry mob.
Police Investigates
According to PRO Vincent Twesige, the Rwenzori West police spokesperson, the suspect, Bagonza Peter aged 39, returned home late Monday night while mentally unstable. When he didn’t find his wife at home, he went to his mother-in-law’s home looking for her. The family, fearing his condition, ran away, leaving behind the little girl, Mary Cynthia, who was just five years old.
Bagonza reportedly took the child back to his home and killed her before burying her in his compound. The next morning, neighbors noticed a fresh grave with the child’s hand sticking out and raised an alarm.
It’s from this background that residents quickly mobilized and went after Bagonza, who was later found and beaten to death by the mob.
Police from Kahunge and Kamwenge stations visited the scene, exhumed the child’s body, and took both bodies for postmortem examination before handing them over to relatives for burial.
Reportedly, Police has since noted that investigations incident are still going on
