Police in Kicwamba Sub-County, Kabarole District, are hunting for a man who narrowly escaped lynching after being caught with a stolen pig.
The suspect, identified as Nyakojo Patrick, a resident of Kinyamahangi A, was reportedly found early Wednesday morning in a nearby bush slaughtering a pig believed to have been stolen from one of his neighbors.
The Incident
According to eyewitnesses, when Nyakojo saw the approaching mob, he fled the scene, leaving the slaughtered pig behind. The enraged residents then turned their anger toward his home, which they set ablaze, destroying all property inside.
During the incident, residents reportedly discovered about 30 stolen hens inside the suspect’s house. Community members claim Nyakojo has long been part of a gang that has been terrorizing the area through frequent thefts of domestic animals and birds.
Police officers later arrived at the scene and dispersed the crowd, urging calm and promising to track down Nyakojo and his accomplices.
Residents in both Kabarole District and Fort Portal City have recently raised concerns about a rise in livestock and poultry thefts, saying such crimes are hindering local development and community safety
