Over 130 young people from various parishes across the Diocese have gathered at Virika Cathedral for a week-long CANA Singles Life in the Spirit seminar, which officially commenced today with Holy Mass led by the Bishop of Fort Portal Diocese, Rt. Rev. Robert K. Muhiirwa Akiiki.
In his homily, Bishop Muhiirwa encouraged the youth to embrace the CANA Singles movement and to invite their friends to join, noting that the movement plays a pivotal role in helping young people discern their vocations, including marriage, religious life, and other callings.

He explained that through the movement’s various programs, participants are guided on how to live their single life joyfully while building a strong relationship with God, which serves as a foundation for their entire life journey especially those intending to marry, to better be set for what they are going into.
The Bishop further urged the youth to remain actively involved in Church activities, reminding them that they are the Church of tomorrow.
Why youth need this
According to the CANA Singles leader for Fort Portal Diocese, Mr. Moses Mugisha Byamukama, the seminar, which began today, will conclude on Saturday and will be held under theme “Building Strong Relationships with God” at Virika Cathedral.
Mr. Mugisha, further decried the increasing cases of failed marriages and divorce in the young people, which he attributed to wrong discernment. He therefore called upon all singles, including those whose marriages have broken down, youth who are not yet married, and those still undecided about their vocations, to embrace this opportunity to receive guidance that will help them make informed life decisions.
The CANA leaders for Fort Portal Diocese, Teddy and Charles Olyweny, emphasized the importance of youth participation in the CANA Singles movement.
They noted that the movement is not only for those seeking marriage but also offers rich programs in financial literacy, vocational discernment, and marriage preparation, among others. They commended Bishop Muhiirwa for his continued support of the movement and his commitment to nurturing responsible and well-grounded young people within the Diocese
