The Bishop of Fort Portal Catholic Diocese has urged responsible leaders to communicate the true costs of education in government schools, calling on RDCs, RCCs, MPs, and other stakeholders to be honest with the public. He stressed that the notion of free education is misleading, as parents and guardians still shoulder a significant part of school expenses despite some government support.
According to Bishop Muhiirwa there is need leaders to tell the truth about the cost of education saying parents are asked to pay PTA to cater for teachers who are not on government payroll since teachers are not enough
The Fort Portal local ordinary, believes that honesty about education costs will help parents plan and budget accordingly, rather than relying on misconceptions about free education.
The Bishop also emphasized that the public needs to shift their mindset towards embracing practical skills, citing that many parents invest significantly in their children’s education, but the children end up without employment.
