Christians of St Joseph Mukasa Balikudembe Butara Catholic Church in Kicuucu Parish, Fort Portal Diocese, Kyenjojo District, have launched a fresh fundraising campaign to construct a new church building following a devastating incident that left their place of worship in ruins.
Yesterday evening, Christians were left in shock after a heavy downpour, accompanied by strong winds, brought down the church structure, leaving bricks and iron sheets scattered as the building collapsed under the force of the storm.
Six injured
Speaking to Jubilee Radio, the Butara Catechist, Anthony Musinguzi, confirmed that six people were injured in the incident, explaining that the victims had gone to the church for personal prayers and sought shelter inside when the rain intensified at around 5 p.m.

He thanked God that no lives were lost, noting that those who were injured while trying to run for their lives are currently receiving medical attention.
Mr. Musinguzi added that the church has started on initial steps toward rebuilding the church , including securing materials that can still be used from the fallen structure, such as iron sheets and nails.
He appealed to people of goodwill to support the fundraising efforts to restore the church.
Meanwhile, the Church Treasurer, Ms. Jane Timbigamba, said that a WhatsApp group has been created to coordinate support and mobilize assistance following the disaster, calling upon all well-wishers to join hands with the church during this difficult time.
She revealed that they are currently loojking for atotal of 70 million shillings to establish a more stable church structure.
