The Rwenzori West Police have arrested two unidentified suspects to assist in investigations following a four-hour shooting incident along Kibogo Road that left two people dead on Wednesday evening.
According to Rwenzori West Police spokesperson Twesige Vincent, the deceased have been identified as Paul Mutazindwa, a security guard with GT Expert Security Group, and Police Constable Bainomugisha Duncan.
Twesige said the incident began at around 7:00 PM when police received reports that Mutazindwa was firing bullets along Kibogo Road. The District Police Commander deployed six officers to contain the situation, but they were overpowered as the security guard had gained access to an armory.

“In the process of trying to stop the security guard, he shot and killed Constable Bainomugisha,” Twesige said. “This prompted the involvement of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), who eventually overpowered Mutazindwa after he resisted surrender.”
He confirmed that only the security guard and the police constable lost their lives, while five other individuals inside the building were safely rescued.
Twesige added that the two suspects arrested are helping authorities determine the cause of the tragic incident. He also urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue.
The two bodies, have been transfered to Fort Portal Regional Referal Hospital for Postmoterm.
