Leaders of kabundaire market in fort portal city have called upon the city council to urgently provide a vehicle to collect garbage to the kiteere dumping site on daily basis.
The market leadership says the accumulation of waste is affecting business operation and posing health risks to vendors and customers, especially during this period of changing weather patterns.They argue that as the market operates on a daily basis, garbage collection is essential to maintain cleanliness and prevent possible disease outbreak.
Speaking to our reporter, Jaccy kabalanzi, chairperson of kabundaire fresh farmers market expressed frustration, saying the poor waste management is affecting business as customers fear the unhygienic environment.
According to Jaccy, earlier the situation was worse,but the city council leadership intervened with trucks that took garbage,she cited challenges like limited trucks and failure for vendors to have their own dustbins at their stalls as the hinderances to the progress and cleanliness of the market.
