A group of Muslims from villages that make up Njara ward Central Division of Fort Portal City are protesting the operation of a pork joint that has been opened along the busy Fort Portal –Kijura road at Hakabale trading center.
They claim that the continued sale of pork in the community violates the dignity and religious beliefs of Muslims which considers pork a taboo.
During a community meeting held on Sunday at Njara Smart Butcher trading center, Adam Ayubu the chairperson Kitumba mosque which is situated in the neighborhood, said that a week ago, a group of Muslim youths who work at Mpanga riverside washing bay along Kijura road stormed his office and reported the development, they thereafter asked him and the entire Muslim leadership to find a lasting solution.
He narrated that the angry youths claimed, the pork joint inconveniences the peace of Muslims, majority of whom use the route to Kitumba and Kamengo mosques and that different Muslim families are close the pork joint spot
While some Muslims were asking to relocate to the hotel in question to another suitable alternative place, other leaders and locals said the hotel should be left to stay since it is surrounded by a parameter wall and only willing customers can enter at free will
