Residents in Kyarusozi Town Council in Kyenjojo District were left in shock after police uncovered human remains at a suspect’s home in a case being investigated as murder, with disturbing allegations of cannibalism from the community.
The case, believed to have occurred about one and a half months ago in Kihara Cell, was reported on May 2nd, 2026, after residents raised concern over the disappearance of 35-year-old Karungi Lukia.
The incident
According to the LC1 Chairperson, Asaba Aheebwa, residents intercepted him on his way to church and expressed fears that the missing woman could have been killed at the home of her former partner, 40-year-old Mwesige Richard, also known as Baby Nsolo.
The matter was immediately reported to police at Kyarusozi, who proceeded to the suspect’s residence.
During a search of the house, officers discovered human remains concealed in a polythene bag, along with bones and clothing identified by residents as belonging to the missing woman Lukia.
The suspect was arrested at the scene, and a case of murder was opened.
According to the Rwenzori West Police Spokes Person, say the scene was examined by homicide detectives and forensic officers, and exhibits were recovered to support ongoing investigations.
The remains were taken to Kyenjojo General Hospital for postmortem examination and further analysis, including DNA testing.
Residents who spoke to Jubilee Radio, reported that both the deceased and the suspect were known in the community for mental health-related concerns. It is also reported that the suspect has a three-month-old child believed to have been fathered with the deceased.
They revealed that some of what they believe to be body parts were found in the saucepan, while another human like meat was discovered at what the suspect had made as a roasting rack inside the house,.
A resident who preferred anonymity narrated that Baby Nsolo had only been buying onions and tomatoes, which she believes he was used to spice up the seen meat in the saucepan.
As investigations proceed, police have called for calm among residents as inquiries continue.
