Christians of Kyarusozi Parish have officially bid farewell to Rev. Fr Emmanuel Isabirye CSC, following four years of dedicated pastoral service.
Presiding over the Eucharistic celebration over the weekend, Fr Isabirye urged the faithful to serve God rather than people, reminding them that no one serves in the same capacity forever.
Reflecting on the day’s readings, he called on believers to live in love, noting that Christ promised to go and prepare a place for them, an assurance of His deep love for humanity.
Living by God’s command
Fr Isabirye challenged the congregation to examine the obstacles that hinder them from living in love, including jealousy, gossip, failure to mind one’s own business, and theft. He emphasized the need for conversion, adding that the place prepared by Christ is reserved for those who live according to God’s commandments, especially the commandment of love.
He also cautioned the faithful against ongoing speculation regarding the assignment of young priests to the parish, affirming that there is no young priest, a priest remains a priest regardless of age and is fully capable of carrying out whatever pastoral responsibilities.
In appreciation, Fr Isabirye thanked the Christians of Kyarusozi his first place of appointment for nurturing him, offering him a home, and walking the journey of faith with him. He also expressed gratitude to fellow priests, especially Fr James Burasa, for mentorship, as well as to the Council of Laity for their strong collaboration.
He called for continued unity and cooperation with the new parish leadership under Fr Innocent Ahunuriza.
Christians commend him
On behalf of the laity, Mr Adolf Mwesige, Vice Chairperson of the Parish Council, described Fr Isabirye as open to learning, decisive, loving, and hardworking. He noted his passion for development and his special concern for the youth, urging the incoming priests to build on his legacy.
Rev. Fr James Burasa CSC, the outgoing Parish Priest, commended Fr Isabirye for his commitment and resilience in serving a busy parish despite limited personnel, highlighting his ability to multitask and serve all faithfully. He asked him to carry on the legacy in the new appointment.
Fr Isabirye, now takes on the role of a director and Chaplain at a Holy Cross Hospital in Nairobi Dandora
