Members of CANA Kamwenge Deanery in Fort Portal Catholic Diocese have today celebrated this year’s CANA Week with a call from Bishop Robert Muhiirwa to live out their identity in Christ.
The celebrations, held at Kamwenge parish, brought together hundreds of CANA members, married couples, and church leaders from all parishes in the deanery.
In his homily, Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert Muhiirwa the the Bishop of Fort portal Catholic diocese reminded CANA members that they are created in the image of Christ and are living witnesses of the Church in their homes and communities.
Men advised
Bishop Muhiirwa called them upon to bear and share good fruits of love, faithfulness, forgiveness, and responsible parenting.
He urged couples to strengthen family prayer, remain faithful to their vows, and raise children with Christian values. The bishop also cautioned against domestic violence, alcoholism, and neglect of family duties, saying such vices destroy the good fruits God expects from families.
Bishop Muhiirwa urged men to take up their responsibilities as heads of families and work together with their spouses
According to him, many families are struggling because men have abandoned their roles as providers and protectors
He also called upon members of CANA to live exemplary lives and reflect Christ in their marriages, families, and communities, adding that neighbors are watching their marriage and children are learning from them.
He further urged members of CANAto make family prayer a daily practice to strengthen their marriages and protect their homes.
However, Bishop Muhiirwa called on single young men and women to join CANA Singles groups, saying the Church wants to nurture and prepare them well ahead of marriage and different vocations

Cana to expand to the entire diocese
Aloysius Mugisa the National leader of CANA said that a total of 141 couples from the parishes of Nyakasura, Kitagenda, Kicwamba and Kamwenge
He revealed that they have plans to expand CANA to the entire diocese of Fort Portal
Charles Teddy, the Diocesan Coordinator CANA Fort Portal Catholic Diocese, says the program has greatly transformed members spiritually, economically, and socially through teachings, retreats, and small Christian communities, our members have deepened their prayer life and understanding of the sacrament of marriage.
She said that there is more dialogue and respect in homes because CANA teaches them that marriage is a partnership
CANA Week in Fort Portal Diocese is marked annually to celebrate and strengthen Catholic marriages and family life.
Bishop Muhiirwa also took time to visit CANA members of Biguli parish, Kahunge and Bisozi at Bisozi parish
