The newly appointed Parish Priest Kyarusozi , Rev.Fr. Innocent Ahuniriza CSC , has been urged to uphold and sustain the strong legacy of Holy Cross leadership established in the Diocese of Fort Portal.
This call was yesterday made by the Diocesan Pastoral Coordinator,
Fr. Gerald Akugizibwe, during the official handover ceremony of Fr .James Burasa CSC, who has served the parish for the past eight years.
Fr. Akugizibwe praised Kyarusozi Parish for its spirit of cooperation, noting that the parish leadership, especially the executive committee, has remained committed and obedient in service, even in the absence of their parish priest. He encouraged them to maintain their strong relationship with the Diocese and continue supporting their new shepherd.
He also commended the Congregation of Holy Cross for the exceptional service of Fr. Burasa, acknowledging his visible contribution to the parish’s spiritual, socio-economic growth and overall development.
An exemplary parish
The Dean of Katoosa Deanery, Rev. Fr. Venancio Busobozi, applauded Father Burasa for strengthening Small Christian Communities and lay apostolate movements, which have made Kyarusozi a model parish within the Diocese. He further commended Christians for remaining committed to their faith and prayer life despite challenges, including the growing influence of the Bisaka movement in the region.
Speaking on behalf of the laity, the Chairperson of the Parish Council, Mr Emmanuel Kamara, pledged continued support to the new parish priest and reaffirmed the parish’s commitment to the Diocese.
The Provincial representative, Rev. Fr. Julius Mumbere CSC, the Provincial Steward, said that the congregation made a great sacrifice to Kyarusozi by bringing Fr James BURASA, a whole PHD holder who was in Tangaza doing other works prior to his books, but brought him on ground in Kyarusozi to uplift souls and communities, some thing he perfectly did because of his good qualities.
He revealed that after the eight developmental years in Kyarusozi, the CSC Congregation now seeks to utilize his other gifts in a new ministry that fits his books.
Fr Julius fuether revealed that Fr Innocent was carefukky selected to suceed Fr Burasa, and they are confident he will push the bar higher because of his special qualities. He asked the Diocese, the parish executive and Christians to continue working well with him, and also pledged continued support to the Diocese and parish.
Call for Collective efforts
In his remarks, Rev.Fr. Innocent Ahuniriza expressed gratitude to his predecessors and the parish leadership for raising the standard of the parish. He called upon all Christians to work together in unity to further promote the spiritual and developmental growth of Kyarusozi Parish.
Ordained in 2024, Fr .Ahuniriza Innocent, a born of Wekomiire Parish Fort Portal Diocese, did his pastoral and Diaconate responsibilities in the Archdiocese of Mwanza Tanzania, He also worked at Holy Cross parish Bugembe Jinja Diocese as assistant Parish Priest from where he was entrusted the responsibility of Parish Priest Kyarusozi.
