Primary and Secondary schools across Fort Portal Tourism City have intensified preventive measures setup by government through the ministry of health in the fight against the spread of deadly Ebola Virus.
Last week, the Ministry of Health issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to guide prevention and control against Ebola Virus Disease in education institutions acknowledging that schools are spaces where learners, teachers, support staff, parents and visitors interact closely hence making them vulnerable to the spread of infectious diseases if preventive measures are not observed.
At Karambi primary school, Fort-portal North Division, a temperature gun and hand washing facility had been placed at the gate on the morning of Monday 1st June 2026
Angelica Kabasiita Mugisa the head teacher said, other hand washing facilities with soap have been placed at different locations including toilets and classroom entrances while a big bottle sanitizer is placed close the staff room for teachers to sanitize every after and before entering class.
At St. Maria Goretti Girls Secondary School, Rev. Sr. Judith Kenkimba the headteacher says, handwashing facilities with clean running water and soap have been placed at the main gate, Classrooms, Dormitories, Dining halls, Toilets and Staff room.
Limited Visitors
At Kahungabunyonyi primary school, a temperature screening machine has been acquired with strict limitation parents and visitors allowed inside school.

At St. Peter and Paul primary school Virika, Stephen Gaaki the head-teacher has told us that time to time sensitization reminders are in place with learners told signs and symptoms and encouraged to report in case any child is spotted
