Parents in Kyenjojo District have been encouraged to register their children for National Identification Numbers (NINs) through the ongoing mass registration exercise being conducted by the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA).
Speaking to our reporter yesterday, the Kyenjojo District NIRA Registrar, said the registration process is simple and can be completed within a day. He urged parents to ensure that children are registered from birth so they can obtain NINs at an early age.
Mr. Nuwamanya also revealed that the Kyenjojo NIRA office is currently holding hundreds of unclaimed National Identity Cards belonging to residents from different sub-counties and parishes across the district. He called upon all applicants who previously registered for or renewed their National IDs to visit the district NIRA office and collect their cards.
According to Nuwamanya, NIRA has already processed and issued numerous National Identity Cards, which are now awaiting collection by their rightful owners.
He advised applicants to carry their National Identification Number (NIN) and the registration slip issued during the registration process when collecting their identity cards.
Mr. Nuwamanya emphasized that both child registration and the collection of National Identity Cards are offered free of charge, warning members of the public against paying anyone for the services.
