The Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert Kasaija Muhiirwa Akiiki today marks 23 years of episcopal service as Bishop of Fort Portal Catholic Diocese.
Bishop Muhiirwa was installed on June 15th, 2003, at Virika Cathedral, with His Eminence Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala, Archbishop of Kampala, serving as the principal consecrator, assisted by Bishop Paul Lokiru Kalanda and Bishop Deogratias Byabazaire as co-consecrators.
Over the past two decades, Bishop Muhiirwa has guided the Diocese with dedication and vision, overseeing significant growth in the number of priests, expansion of parishes, and strengthening of lay apostolate movements. His leadership has also contributed to improved communication within the Diocese, as well as the development of Catholic-founded schools and health institutions.
A strong advocate for environmental stewardship, Bishop Muhiirwa has actively promoted the message of Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’, encouraging care for creation. He has consistently emphasized the importance of strong family life, particularly calling on men to be present and responsible in their families, including participation in the Catholic Men’s Association.
In the area of social development, the Bishop has championed practical education to combat unemployment, urged public servants to uphold integrity and fight corruption, and called for improved service delivery.
As a prostate cancer survivor, Bishop Muhiirwa continues to inspire many by encouraging regular health check-ups, early testing, and healthy living.
He has also urged Christians to embrace sustainable sources of income, especially through growing cash crops such as coffee and cocoa to support household livelihoods.
Jubilee Radio congratulates Bishop Robert Muhiirwa upon this remarkable milestone and thanks him for his years of faithful service to the Church and society.
