A heavy hail storm on Friday hit residents of kyaruhanga ward in Kagongo Division Ibanda Municipality destroying crop gardens, plantation and houses worth millions of shillings, leaving over 50 farmers stranded.
The most affected areas are Kyaruhanga I, Kyaruhanga II, Kyabugaija I ,Kyereta cell among others.
The storm that started at around 7:00pm lasted for a few hours and destroyed acres of banana plantations, gardens of tomatoes, beans, and cassava among other food crops.
According to Freedom Muzoora , a resident of Kyaruhanga cell,the iron sheets on his house were blown away by strong winds, his three-acre banana plantation, beans and cassava plantations were completely destroyed.
Other residents who spoke to our reporter confirmed that they lost acres of banana and cassava plantation and appealed to the Municipality leadership to extend relief aid to the victims.
Meanwhile Mudasulu Rukundo the vice Chairperson LC3 chairman for Kagongo Division said he has moved in the affected villages to assess the magnitude and impact of the disaster they will make a comprehensive report about the victims, gardens and houses destroyed to submit to the top leaders for further assistance.
