Six people sustained injuries following a serious road traffic accident that occurred on Monday morning along Lugard street near VOT Radio in Fort Portal Tourism City.
According to preliminary police reports, the crash happened at around 9:30 a.m. and involved a Toyota Hiace taxi, registration number UBB 274R, and a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UGC 937A.
Police allege that the Toyota Hiace was travelling from Kasese towards Kampala when the driver reportedly lost control due to suspected over speeding upon reaching the VOT Radio area. The vehicle knocked the motorcycle before overturning.
The injured include Grace Kimbaraza (50), Enid Nayebare (7), Biira Gift Fauzia (34), Magezi Nicholas (23), and Joedi Alex (40), all passengers in the taxi. The motorcycle rider, Geoffrey Agaba (45), also sustained injuries.
All the victims suffered minor injuries and were rushed to Buhinga Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.
Police officers led by the District Traffic Officer (DTO) Kabarole visited and documented the scene. The damaged Toyota Hiace and motorcycle were towed and are currently parked at Fort Portal Central Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.
Police have launched investigations into the crash and have urged all motorists to observe speed limits and drive responsibly to prevent road accidents.
