The Bishop of Fort Portal Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert Muhiirwa, has appealed to Catholics and other well-wishers across the diocese to support communities in Kotido and Moroto Dioceses that are facing severe hunger and food insecurity.
Bishop Muhiirwa has called upon the faithful, parishes, Catholic institutions, religious communities and other well-wishers to respond to the situation by sharing what they can with families affected by the worsening food crisis.
In response to the urgent need, the Bishop has directed that a special collection be conducted in all parishes and institutions within Fort Portal Catholic Diocese on Sunday, September 13, 2026.
The collection will be used to support people in Kotido and Moroto, where communities are facing serious challenges related to hunger and food insecurity.
Bishop Muhiirwa has urged the faithful to contribute generously according to their means, emphasizing the importance of solidarity with people experiencing hardship.
He has directed that all collections be remitted to the Diocesan Treasurer General for appropriate coordination and distribution.
The appeal comes as the Catholic Church mobilizes support for vulnerable communities affected by food insecurity, calling on Christians to put their faith into action through charity and concern for those in need.
Bishop Muhiirwa has encouraged all parishioners and institutions to participate in the special collection and make whatever contribution they can towards supporting families affected by the hunger situation in Kotido and Moroto.
