Health officials in the Rwenzori and Tooro sub-regions have paid tribute to the late Omukama of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi iv, for his contribution to healthcare and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
The tribute was made yesterday during a regional health review meeting held at Fort Breeze Hotel in Fort Portal City.
The meeting was led by Dr Richard Mugahi, Commissioner for Maternal and Child Health at the Ministry of Health.
Dr Mugahi led the health officials in observing a moment of silence in honour of the late King.He described Omukama Oyo as a champion of health, particularly in the fight against HIV/AIDS among young people.
Mugahi says the late King’s efforts earned him international recognition and a role as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for HIV/AIDS campaigns.
He also served as a Ministry of Health immunisation ambassador, supporting vaccination campaigns aimed at protecting children against preventable diseases.

Among his contributions, Mugahi highlighted the late King’s support for the introduction of the malaria vaccine for children in Uganda in 2025.
