The remains of late King of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, have yesterday been laid to rest at the Karambi Royal Tombs in Fort Portal City attended by thousands of mourners.
The burial took place today, September 12th, a significant date on which the late King Oyo was officially crowned as the King of Tooro.
King Oyo, who became one of the youngest reigning monarchs in the world after ascending to the Tooro throne as a child, has been mourned by cultural leaders, government officials, religious leaders and subjects from across the country.
Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV was born on 16th April 1992 to Omukama Patrick David Mathew Kaboyo Olimi III and Omugo Best Kemigisa and died at the age of 34. Arising from sudden and unfortunate death of Omukama Kaboyo Olimi III, his three year old son Oyo became the King of Tooro
While preaching to hundreds of mourners at St. John’s Cathedral in Fort Portal City, the Archbishop of the church of Uganda His Grace Stephen Kazimba Mugalu said that Tooro Kingdom and the world at large has lost a great young person hence calling upon them to remain united and receive comfort from God.
Mugalu urged people of Tooro to protect the legacy of King Oyo of promoting unity, championed, nature and conservation, environment, a campaign to fight against the spread of HIV, advocated for the return of the historical Kingdom properties hence calling upon the government to return the Kingdom’s properties in memory of his legacy
Princess Ruth Komuntale described her brother as a brother who loved, protected, and cared for her deeply. She said that he loved God and put God first in everything that he did and loved his animals. She added that her brother was a very private man, he shared only what he thought was necessary with certain individuals
Queen mother Best Kemigisa described her son as person who was caring, had courage and prayerful
Musuuga Charles Kamurasi asked the people of Tooro Kingdom to remain united, promote the culture of Tooro and its glory. He also announced Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I as the successor of late King Oyo
He commended the Queen mother for raising an incredible King , advising her to stand firm in the Lord as a Christian.
President Museveni in his message read by Thomas Tayebwa, the deputy speaker of the Parliament of Uganda described the King as a great cultural leader who never clashed with the central government.
According to president Museveni the cultural leaders restored are not for politics administration instead but for culture which includes language and customs
