The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, has called upon the people of Tooro to remain calm and united as they bid farewell to the late Rukirabasaija Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV.
The Kabaka’s condolence message was read by his younger brother, Prince David Wasajja, who represented the Kingdom of Buganda at King Oyo’s final journey.
In the message, Prince Wasajja, speaking on behalf of the Kabaka, emphasized the centuries-old brotherhood between Buganda and Tooro, dating back to 1830. He noted that princes and princesses from both kingdoms have, over the years, been raised by each other’s kings.
The Kabaka urged the people and leaders of Tooro to put the interests of the kingdom above those of individuals or groups, particularly at a time when the kingdom is facing a succession dispute.
He added that although King Oyo was physically gone, his hopes and aspirations for the kingdom should continue to live on.
The Kabaka also recalled his role in Oyo’s upbringing, saying that when the late king ascended the throne at a tender age, he played a role in grooming him and helping him grow into a great king.
Kabaka Mutebi urged the people of Tooro to remain united in purpose, calm in spirit and steadfast in faith as they mourn their king.
