Kabalega International Airport in Hoima has received its first aircraft. A twin-engine plane operated by Eagle Air Uganda touched down on Sunday morning, carrying football officials ahead of Tuesday’s Uganda Cranes match against Libya in Hoima.
A Uganda Airlines flight was also expected later in the day, bringing the players themselves before taking Bunyoro leaders on a free joyride to Entebbe.
The State Minister for Transport Fred Byamukama said the flights were meant to prove the airport is ready for use. He added that President Museveni will officially commission the facility in January.
The airport, built with a three-and-a-half kilometre runway, is expected to support Uganda’s oil sector and boost transport ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Uganda will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania.
