A total of 326 Christians have earlier yesterday received the Sacrament of Confirmation at St.Mary’s Kazingo Parish Fort Portal City, In a Sacred Mass presided over by Rt.Rev.Dr Robert Muhiirwa Akiiki, Bishop of Fort Portal Catholic Diocese.
The confirmed were hailing from the two Sub parishes of Kinyankende and Kazingo respectively.
In his homily at the confirmation Mass held at Kazingo Parish premises, Bishop Muhiirwa elaborated on the importance of the Holy Spirit to the lives of Christians implying spiritual growth in the Catholic Church, hence tasking them to embrace church roles awaiting them in continuation of the work of Jesus’ Disciples.
Personal & Collective Prayers
The Bishop, who called for intensive personal and collective prayers, appealed to the confirmed to consider joining church movements like Holy Childhood, Xaverians, and Junior Legionaries among others not for the sake of joining but for purposes of deepening their faith.
Fort Portal Diocesan prelate also used the chance to remind parents of their vital role in nurturing their children in the Catholic faith, noting the mushrooming non-genuine religions that divert children.
Laziness in Praying for Vocations
As regards to Vocations, Bishop Muhiirwa decried the current laziness of praying for vocations including the vocation of Marriage and Religious life, saying that the number of the religious is generally low because due to lack of prayer, families are no longer nurturing enough clergy and religious.
He thus tasked Christians to dive into prayer and pray for vocations.
The confirmed Christians expressed gratitude for the steps taken in the church and pledged to take heed of Bishop’s advice especially in regularly having the Sacraments of penance, and Eucharist among others. They hailed their Catechists and parents for the great support to nurture them in religion.
Representing the Council of Laity, Micheal Kyota highlighted the challenges of lack of land titles for all the church land in the parish, and low IQ for their children at schools which he linked to malnutrition. He asked the present MP Fort Portal City Linda Irene to lend them a helping hand in this issue.
Rev. Fr. Edward Winyi the Parish priest Kazingo, praised the Bishop for the confirmation visit. He highlighted the existing unity with the parishioners that has continuously led to the development of the parish
Present at the function, was Adolf Kamara Araali, Hon.Linda Irene Mugisa Joram Kinuge among others
