About 1.29bn still required for Virika Cathedral Renovation

Out of the 2bn being sought by the diocese of Fort portal to renovate Virika Cathedral’s leaking roof, About 707 million only which is 35.3% has so far been raised.

According to the planning and management office, several ways were fronted for acquisition of required funds to renovate the Cathedral’s leaking roof.

Among the ways fronted to solicit these funds according to the above office, include Parish Contributions, Launching and fundraising initiatives .

Through Parish Contributions, a total of about Shs 948 million is expected, but so far 363 million only has been collected, out of 430 million expected from launching only 210 million was collected, and out of fundraising initiatives that included Bishop’s day,  only 99 million of 585 has so far been secured. This makes the available grand total available Shs 707,749,033 in cash.

According to Eng. Deo Katokere, the contractor, at least 75% of the 2bn which is 1.5 billion is required in cash before the renovation process kicks off. This according to him is to secure the needed original Material and labor that will not require any other renovation again.

Fort portal diocese, which is also set to lead the 2022 Uganda Martyr’s celebrations, is soliciting funds for both functions at ago.

Bishop Muhiirwa therefore thanks members for their contributions but requests them not to get tired of giving, and building for God.
