The newly appointed sister Leaders of the Congregation of Daughters of St. Theresa of the child Jesus, well known as Banyatereza, were on Saturday, September 4, 2022, inaugurated at a thanksgiving and hand over function by Fort Portal’s ordinary, Rt. Rev. Bishop Robert K Muhiirwa Akiiki.
The 2022-2028 leadership
The leaders elect, include Rev. Mother Seraphine Kaitesirwa the supreme moderator, Sr. Immaculate Paula Kunihira the Vicaress, Sr. Rose Boonabaana the 1st councilor Sr. Mary Magdalene Birungi the 2nd councilor, and Sr. Dr. Priscillor Busingye the 3rd councilor, whose positions of office were officiated at the Banyatereza mother house Virika, by Fort Portal’s Ordinary.
“Be obedient.” Bishop Muhiirwa to sisters
The day, kicked off with holy Mass led by His lordship Muhiirwa, who in his homily appealed to sisters to obey the new leadership regarding the first vow they made of obedience.
In the same homily, the Bishop appreciated the commendable work portrayed by the outgoing cabinet led by Sr. Maria Goretti Kabakaali and the unity they exhibited during their term in office.
He however called for collective efforts with the new team to push forward the congregation of Banyatereza.
Former and current Mother generals speak out
According to the new Mother General, Sr. Seraphine Kaitesirwa, the responsibility entrusted to her can only be possible with united efforts from their fellow sisters, church, and government leaders, with God their guide.
Mother Kaitesirwa, notes that her appointment to that position was by God, who will lead them through the next 6 years.
She pledged to work hand in hand with relevant people in pushing forward the work entrusted to her, thereby calling for togetherness from different individuals and organizations to successfuly accomplish thegiven task ahead.
The outgoing Mother Kabakaali, who has also served as a superior for 12 years different terms, has thanked God for this exceptional privilege of service, revealing she has satisfyingly accomplished most of what she wished and prayed for for their congregation.
She lauded Bishops Muhiirwa and Mugenyi for the exceptional love and unity for the Banyatereza this appealing to the new leaders to maintain the bondage.
Sr.Kabakaali to engage in women in development
As regards to her next move following her retirement as a superior, Sr. Kabakaali reveals her willingness to collaborate with women in development, as a way of utilizing her skills for a positive change.
The former Mother general, revealed her willingness to take on any responsibility accorded tome by her leaders.
The congregation of daughters of St. Theresa, has its main house at Virika Fort Portal and a population of 401 sisters in more than 3 countries.
