As they begin their new six-year leadership term, the Religious Brothers of St. Joseph the Worker have been urged to place their trust in Jesus Christ, the wounded healer.
This call was made yesterday by Bishop Robert K. Muhiirwa Akiiki, Ordinary of the Fort Portal Catholic Diocese, in his homily during the handover Mass from the former council to the new one at the Kinyamasika generalate.
Deepening their Prayer Life
Bishop Muhiirwa encouraged the new leadership to pray for deep faith, especially in light of the challenges ahead, urging them to look to Jesus, the wounded healer, who endured betrayal, shame, and suffering for the good of the world. Through Him,vhe said, they will find the courage to face the challenges before them.
The bishop also reminded the new leadership to embrace the Jubilee year and spend time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, asking for blessings upon their congregation, growth in numbers, and progress. He urged them to remain faithful to the charism initiated by Bishop Magambo.
The Prelate also emphasized the importance of teamwork, regular meetings, quarterly evaluations, and leveraging each other’s talents to advance the congregation’s mission. He assured them of his guidance and support whenever needed.
Strategizing for a Bigger Population
Rev. Brother Aloysius Kiiza, who handed over leadership, noted that the congregation’s current population of 65 brothers had been affected by the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. He called on the new leadership, with 60% of its members from the previous council, to strategize for expanding vocations and increasing their numbers.
Brother Kiiza explained that the congregation currently operates in the dioceses of Fort Portal, Kasese, Mbarara, and Kabale, urging the new leadership to work diligently to sustain the brothers while pushing forward Late Bishop Magambo’s legacy via their Charism.
Brother Eugene Bwambale Africano, the current superior, shared that the new leadership will focus on unity, love, and prayer, continuing the work of the former regime. He also requested that Bishop Muhiirwa remain close to them for guidance and support.
