The ordinary of Fort Portal Catholic Diocese, Dr. Robert K Muhiirwa Akiiki, on Sunday 18 September 2022, called for respect for humanity among Christians, to honor God and live peacefully in this world.
The Bishop made this call during holy Mass while delivering a homily to over 1000 congregants gathered at St. John the Baptist Iboroga catholic parish to fundraise for the roof of their new church building under construction.

According to his Lordship, employers should reflect on the way they treat their workers, noting that every person deserves to be respected in their capacity.
“Most of us here especially old people have people that work for us in gardens, as house helps, in offices among other areas. The question remains about how we pay these people, Do we pay them in time? Are we just in recognizing their efforts? God challenges us to treat everyone with due respect” Remarked the Bishop
Officials warned about embezzling funds
His lordship Muhiirwa, in the same homily, denounced the common corruption committed by officials who want shortcuts for money but advised members to stop using money to destroy God’s commands.

In the same Mass, were government officials, whom the Bishop asked to serve diligently and listen to people’s needs, citing an example of current inflation, which the government has ignored.
Iboga fundraising successful
Out of the required 250m estimated to cover the roof of the church, the first fundraising function yielded a total of 94 million, with total cash of 77m.
Over 1000 Christians collectively participated in the fundraising exercise, organized by Fr. Alex Isingoma the parish priest of Iboroga, and graced by Rt. Rev. Bishop Robert Muhiirwa Akiiki, Government officials among others.

Some of the government officials present for the fundraising included Hon. Rukia Nakaddama the 3rd Prime minister of the republic of Uganda, who represented the Rt.Hon. Robina Nabbanja as a chief guest, Minister Tom Butiime MP Kyenjojo and Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Minister Victoria Rusoke MP Kabarole, Hon.Tom Bright Mp Kyegegwa, Hon.Sylvia Baheraire of Kamwenge, Hon. Stephen Kagwera, Hon.Faith Filo Kunihira, Chairperson Richard Rwabuhinga among others.
OPM contributes 10m for Iboroga church construction.
Hon. Rukia Nakadama in her speech as a chief guest commended the visible work of building for God and reassured Christians not to get tired, for they are well preparing well for the life after earth.
Nakadama, appealed to members to continue joining efforts in acquiring the required sum before revealing the 10 million contributions donated by the office of the prime minister to support the cause.
