The Bishop of Fort Portal Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert K. Muhiirwa Akiiki, has paid tribute to the late Bonifance Kiiza, former Head Catechist of Wekomiire, for his unwavering commitment to family, church, and community throughout his life.
During the funeral Mass held at Kihamba Sub-County Wekomiire Parish Kyenjojo District, the Bishop praised Kiiza, as a devoted husband to Keviina Bonabaana and father to Rev. Fr. Francis Xavier Musiime and Br. Bonifance Mujuni who are serving the church in different capacities. He emphasized Kiiza’s remarkable character and how he and his wife worked together to nurture their children into responsible citizens, highlighting that their efforts contributed to the family’s legacy of faith, including the formation of a priest and a religious brother.
Reflecting on Kiiza’s exemplary life, the Bishop urged mourners to torch their own lives and how they would respond if called by God.
He encouraged them to adhere to God’s commandments, love their neighbors, honor the day of the Lord, and live by principles that foster community harmony.
The Bishop also referenced Kiiza’s commitment to his marriage as a model for respect and purity, urging the community to avoid actions that could contribute to the spread of HIV, particularly in the Rwenzori Region.
He cautioned against materialism and called for humility and a commitment to a life aligned with God’s wishes. He encouraged parents to emulate Kiiza’s example and urged children to take responsibility for their aging parents, reminding everyone that their earthly actions will be accounted for in the afterlife.
Mr. Bonifance Kiiza, born in 1936, passed away on September 23rd 2024 after suffering a stroke at Nsambya Hospital. He is survived by eight children and a widow.
May Mr Kiiza’s soul rest in peace. Amen.
