The Ruwenzori diocese Reuben Kisembo is challenging everyone to embrace physical exercise as 95yr old retires from playing Golf.
95 year old Emmanuel Basaliza senior a renowned golf player and l0resident of Kicuna Rwengaju sub-county in Kabarole district announced his retirement as he celebrated his birthday.
The birthday celebrations attended by his family members, golfers,religious and political leaders held at Tooro Golf Club Boma in Fort-portal commenced with a golf tournament codenamed Basaliza at 95 Golf Tournament.
The golf competition attracted players from Fort-portal, Mbarara and Kampala and best performers were awarded with trophies.
Speaking as chief guest Rev. Bishop Kisembo acknowledged the effort of Mzee Basaliza in promoting golf sport in Tooro kingdom. He has represented Tooro both nationally and international in different countries.
His son Edward Basaliza who is also the chairperson Tooro Diary Cooperation said that their father has lived an exemplary life in as far as sports are concerned. He added that celebrating 95years of age shouldn’t be taken for granted hence calling on young ones to embrace his deeds.
In his birthday speech Mzee Emmanuel Basaliza revealed that he has spent more than 50 years playing golf since 1974 when he started winning trophies.
He officially announced his retirement from playing golf but pledged total support for the continuing generation whenever there is need.
The tournament had 62 players inclusive of AFRIYEA Golf Academy juniors
Tooro club contributed the biggest number of members followed by Kasese , Mbarara and Uganda Golf club.
AFRIYEA Golf Academy student Amon Bwambale beat the rest of all other players to emerge as the overall winner
