About One hundred and fifty (150) Boda-boda riders have assembled at Buhinga Stadium Fort Portal City were enlightened on proper usage of their daily hard earned income, to start up or boost heir side businesses.
About the program
The program, was brought to them by the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Fort Portal who were celebrating their golden Jubilee with a Mega Crusade At Bukwali set to end tomorrow.
According to Fr Stephen Kasoro, the Spiritual Director CCR Fort Portal, the movement realized the pivotal role played by the Motorcyclists, and thus came up with special Facilitators relevant to their profession, to take them through utilizing their job for better income.
” The boda-boda men are so essential that with out them we would suffer getting our programs done on time or our things delivered in time. It was our initial plan to meet them separately for two things. Bring to them the word of God but also offer financial literacy to them” Said Fr Kasoro
Dr.Edward Kaziire of Kaziire group of Companies, an entrepreneur who doubles as a roman catholic catechist at Uganda Martyrs parish Mbarara Archdiocese, facilitated a session of prayer for the riders followed by the financial literacy talk.
Dr Kaziire, noted that the boda community is instrumental in both social, economic and evangelical transformation because they interface with various people and so it is easier for them to get information delivered to all categories of people.
As a young entrepreneur, Kaziire noted the need by the riders who get daily income cash flows to consider saving, so that their families can benefit from their jobs largely.
He further noted the need to build a strong relationship with the boda team, so that they can always meet them through boda team and brief them about different projects including bee keeping, piggery, crop growing on a large scale among others.
“The economic growth and development of the Boda community is key in the development of the tourism city, and the diocese of Fort Portal as a whole, their presence here is a big gesture of development and we are looking forward to motivating them and support them achieve their dreams.” Remarked Kaziire
Betty Namusoke, a co facilitator in the same session, lauded the unity exhibited by the Boda guys at Buhinga stadium in prayers and asked them to extend the same spirit in developmental matters.
Riders grateful for the service
David Musinguzi, a rider from Buhinga boda stage, noted that the teachings were very relevant to his life, and he is hopeful the challenges remain where they prayed from.
The chairperson Fort Portal City Boda-Fboda’s Association, Edward Rugumayo, hailed the efforts by CCR to bring God closer to the boda Men and revealed that they are equally grateful for the thoughtfulness.
He further told us that this kind of activity used to happen at St.Charles Lwanga Town Church, but was waylaid by the Covid- 19 national lock down of 2021.
According to Rugumayo, the kind of financial literacy rendered to the Boda fraternity is vital to their financial growth, and wishes the facilitators continue with such a spirit.
