Residents of Nyabusenyi III village, Kaswa Parish, Busoro Sub-county in Kabarole district are excited following the commissioning of a borehole that will serve more than 200 families in the community.
The borehole has been constructed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority under the Kibale National Park Revenue Sharing Program. Revenue Sharing according to Uganda Wildlife Authority involves sharing a portion of park revenue with communities surrounding national parks and wildlife reserves.
Hope Fills Residents
Busoro Sub-county Chairperson Mugisa Leo says the entire community lacked a water source, forcing residents to share dirty water with animals, putting their lives at risk. He added that residents also walked for longer distances in search of clean and safe water sources.
LC3 told a gathering of residents that the construction of the borehole is an indication that they are beginning to benefit from taxes they pay to the government before challenging UWA officials also to consider other villages in the sub-county without safe water.
Daniel Karuhanga said the area lacked water sources forcing residents to share dirty water sources with animals. He expressed excitement over the donation and said that the boreholes will enhance access to clean water as well as save time for women to do other domestic chores.
Other Villages that remain with scarce clean and safe water for domestic use include Nyabusenyi I and Nyabusenyi II which the LC3 Mugisa Leo said shall be considered in the coming phases.
The commissioning and handover of the water source was also attended by officials from UWA and Kibale National Park.
