Vendors in Bunyangabu district are voicing their dissatisfaction with what they perceive as exorbitant market fees levied on agricultural products.
The vendors, who are urging local leaders to swiftly address this issue, caution that peaceful protests may ensue if no action is taken.
During a recent meeting organized by the Kabarole NGOs and CBOs Association (KANCA) at Kabale trading center in Kibiito Sub County, vendors aired their grievances, among them fees ranging from 6000 to 10,000 Shillings per sack of sweet potatoes and a minimum of 10,000 Shillings per bell of tomatoes.

Margaret Kamara, a vendor and farmer, stressed the financial strain faced by vendors, citing expenses such as land rental, transportation, and pesticide purchases, compounded by high market fees.
John Katwesigye from Mugoma C village in Kibiito Sub County, expressed frustration with the lack of standardized market fees and criticized the district leadership for resolutions negatively impacting farmers.

Peter Byakuyamba, representing KANCA, emphasized the importance of community meetings as a platform for locals to voice concerns and understand their rights and the electoral process.
