A recent meeting organized by the Kabarole NGO/Civil Society Association (KANCA) saw a heated exchange between local leaders over the issue of poor service delivery in Bunyangabu District.
The gathering, initially aimed at addressing community concerns and improving governance, quickly turned into a battleground of accusations and counter-accusations among district officials.
Held at Rwenzori sport views hotel in Rubona town, the meeting brought together various stakeholders including district councilors, local government officials, civil society representatives, and community members.
The main Agenda
The main agenda was to discuss the persistent issues of inadequate infrastructure, lack of access to clean water, and the poor state of healthcare and educational facilities in the district.
Tensions rose when leaders criticized the district’s technical team for their alleged inefficiency and mismanagement of funds.
In response, Kato Hussein the district speaker attributed the challenges to insufficient funding and delayed disbursement of funds from the central government.
He emphasized the need for greater transparency, accountability and collaborative efforts to address the challenges being faced in the district.
KANCA pledged to continue facilitating dialogues between the government and the community, stressing the importance of collaboration in addressing the district’s development challenges.
As the district grapples with these issues, the outcome of this meeting signifies a step towards better governance and accountability, with the hope that the residents of Bunyangabu will soon see tangible improvements in their living conditions.
