Caritas Fort Portal –HEWASA and Joint effort to save the environment (JESE) mid western umbrella and Kitagwenda district have handed over completed water, sanitation and hygiene infrastructure to residents of Nyakeera landing side and Kyendangara in Kitagwenda district.
According to Birungi Stephen from caritas Fort portal HEWASA said that they have handed over water, sanitation and hygiene infrastructure like gravity flow scheme, cattle drinking troughs, Retainer wall, shelter for handling fish among others.
While speaking during the handover ceremony held in Mahyoro town council Kitagwenda district, the Bishop of Fort Portal catholic diocese Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert Muhiirwa commended the leadership of Kitagwenda district for cooperating with Caritas Fort Portal –HEWASA in bringing water, sanitation and hygiene infrastructure in Mahyoro town council.
Bishop Muhiirwa asked the public to be responsible for the infrastructure handed over to them and asked them to own them.
Rev. Fr. Joseph Musana the director caritas Fort portal diocese says that the program is funded jointly by the government of Belgium and protos. He asked the public to protect the infrastructure.
Mubanyakatamba Stephen representing the chair person LC5 Kitagwenda district asked caritas Fort portal HEWASA also extend services to all parts of the district saying that this will reduce the risks of sanitary diseases like cholera among others.
Abasi Abigaba asked the government to remove tax on water and put it on luxury goods.
