In preparation for its 43rd graduation ceremony, the Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) has yesterday held a Thanksgiving Mass to celebrate both its 40 years of existence and the upcoming graduation.
The Mass was led by His Grace Msgr. Cesare Paggazi, Secretary of the Dicastery for Culture and Education at the Vatican, and attended by various members of AMECEA, including Bishop Robert Muhiirwa of Fort Portal, who serves on the university council.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Very Rev. Prof. Stephen Mbugua Ngari emphasized the significance of the 40-year milestone, referencing its biblical importance, notably the 40 Jesus spent with his disciples after resurrection. He reflected on the university’s impressive transformation from a theological institute to a fully recognized university, crediting this growth to divine guidance.
The graduation celebrations, held on campus in Kenya, featured the official launch of a university book and the unveiling of Mr. CUEA and Miss CUEA.
Bishop Muhiirwa noted that over its four decades, CUEA has contributed significantly to the clergy in the Diocese of Fort Portal, including Rev. Fr. Tadius Musabe the Diocesan Treasurer, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Byaruhanga the Rector St.Mary’s Seminary Virika, and Rev. Fr. James Isabakaki the Dean Kamwenge, among others.
