Drama has ensued today at Muchwa chambers, in the wake of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi iV, appointing a new prime minister. This was during the Orukurato Rukuru Rw’obukama Bwa Tooro, following King Oyo’s recent call for an urgent sitting of the supreme council.
The drama
It all started after the king announced the new Prime Minister as Steven Kiyingi Frankston and the speaker Eng. Julius Mwirumbi, asked for the seconding of the premier, which attracted mixed reactions from representatives.
The members, accused the speaker of not following the Tooro Kingdom constitution, before they could make alarms in the council. It is from this confusion, that the speaker was prompted to order the sergeant at arms, to throw them out of the house, which infuriated them further.
Speaker Mwirumbi, asked the members of Orukurato, to approve the new prime minister with immediate effect.
Representatives speak out
The representatives refused to back down, forcing the speaker to declare Kiyingi as the New Premier and adjourned the sitting.
In an interview, a section of members accused the kingdom for appointing a non native from Tooro and being dictatorial.
In his defense, the speaker Eng Mwirumubi Julius stated that members who were bringing commotion in the council were not following the agenda.
