The St. Leo’s College Kyegobe community has today joyfully marked three significant events:,their belated feast day, the sacrament of Confirmation, and the International Day of the Poor in a Holy Mass presided over by Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert Muhiirwa Akiiki, Bishop of Fort Portal Catholic Diocese.
During the Mass, Bishop Muhiirwa administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to eight students, encouraging them to consistently cooperate with the Holy Spirit they received and to cultivate the seven gifts of the Spirit.
In his homily, the Bishop stressed the importance of regular prayer as a way to remaining spiritually fit, highlighting the significance of the sacraments of Penance and the Holy Eucharist. He urged the confirmands to resist peer pressure that diverts them, but stay focused on their studies and future careers.
His Lordship Muhiirwa, further invited the entire congregation to reflect on the example of St. Leo the Great, the patron saint of the college, urging them to emulate his example by defending the true teachings of the Church, being good administrators, and promoting peace.
In observance of the International Day of the Poor, Bishop Muhiirwa echoed Pope Francis’ message, reminding everyone that we are all poor before God. He emphasized the importance of recognizing those who are materially poor and offering help where we can, recalling the words of Mother Teresa about the power of giving with a smile.
Martin Murungi, Chairperson of the SLECK Chapel Council, praised the growth of spirituality in the college, noting significant progress over the years. He encouraged his fellow students to value the wisdom of elders, such as Bishop Muhiirwa, religious leaders, and teachers, for the benefit of their futures.
Rev. Fr. Innocent Guma, the College Chaplain, expressed gratitude to Bishop Muhiirwa for taking time out of his busy schedule to join their celebrations and confirm the students, emphasizing the sense of unity within the community.
Mr. Trophy Atuhairwe, Headteacher of St. Leo’s College Kyegobe, commended the spirit of collaboration among the sister schools which he described as the Quadruple including St. Mary’s Seminary represented by Fr Emmanuel Byaruhanga, St. Maria Goretti Girls represented by Sr Judith Kenkiimba and her deputy, St. John Mary S.S.
