Bishop Robert K Muhiirwa, the Local ordinary of Fort Portal Catholic Diocese has urged Christians to embrace the Government’s population census program for 2024.
The upcoming census, themed ‘It matters to be counted,’ is scheduled to take place from May 10th to May 19th this year.
Addressing congregants yesterday during Sunday Mass at St. Michael Kahunge Catholic Parish as part of his annual pastoral and confirmation visit, Bishop Muhiirwa emphasized the importance of participation in the census. He encouraged Christians to be present in their homes on May 10th and to actively engage with the census process, emphasizing its significance for effective government planning.
“Population census is even in the Bible.I urge you all to actively take part in the exercise so that it is easy for the government to effectively plan for its citizens ” Noted Muhiirwa.

Echoing Bishop Muhiirwa’s remarks,Rev. Fr. Benedict Kakwezi, the Parish Priest of Kahunge Catholic parish, urged Christians to provide accurate information during the census activities.
In the very Holy Mass, Bishop Muhiirwa administered a sacrament of confirmation to over 300 Christians , setting a commendable example for others within the community.

The government declared Friday May 10 a public holiday to enable citizens to fully participate in the sixth National Housing and Population Census.
The news was announced by the chairperson board members, UBOS, Albert Byamugisha while speaking to the Media at Naguru Police headquarters.
