The Rt.Rev.Dr.Robert Muhiirwa Akiiki, Bishop of Fort Portal has asked believers in Christ to emulate the shepherds in the Bible who changed for better after visiting the newly born Jesus, and went away glorifying God.
He was on Thursday this week delivering his Christmas message in a press briefing that took place from his residence in Kijanju Ward Fort Portal City. The Bishop says that Christians should utilize the Christmas season to renew their relationship with God and endeavor to give thanks to him for the many good deeds he does for them.
Addressing a critical concern, the Bishop appealed to the residents more particularly the youth in the Rwenzori region to treat their bodies as temples of God, discouraging engagement in sexual immorality activities which are common in festivities.
He highlighted the alarming HIV/AIDS prevalence rate in Fort Portal City, currently standing at 17.8%.
In a related appeal, the prelate asked Parents especially men to be present parents in their families and take on their responsibilities through providing for their families and not wasting money in pork joints and bars.
He challenged them to cooperate with Women parents and raise responsible citizens.
Expressing sympathy for the recent tragic events, in Kamwenge, Bishop Muhiirwa extended his condolences to the people of Kyabandara Kamwenge, who fell victim to an attack by suspected ADF rebels that claimed 10 lives.
He urged the government to take full control of security in the affected area, expressing concern that the same adversaries might exploit the festivities to disrupt the situation.
Having returned to Uganda on November 29, 2023, after a successful surgery in India, Bishop Muhiirwa provided a health update, revealing that he is currently on a two-month sick leave as advised by his physician.
He called on Christians to collaborate with the Vicar General and other Clerics, who will temporarily assume his church duties during his absence.
