The Bishop of Fort Portal catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert Muhiirwa has launched the distribution of indigenous tree seedling to the youth of Fort Portal diocese, as one way of protecting the environment in the spirit of Laudato si.
He launched the distribution yesterday at St. Adolf Ongoing Formation Center in Mukabura Fort Portal city, With key note that our fore fathers and mothers protected the environment which is a total opposite currently.
Bishop Muhiirwa, attributes the current environmental condition to greed, ignorance among others.
“There is much destruction to our common home which is a devastating danger to our future and that of our great grand children.”
The prelate further said that environmental destruction is a great threat to the world and has immensely contributed to global warming that is set to affect innocent people and creatures.
Muhiirwa, echoed the Holy Father Pope Francis’ message of appealing the public to protect the common home by observing the cry of the environment.
After the launch, Bishop Muhiirwa went on to ask the youth who took the tree seedlings to not only stop at planting them but and bother to take care of them for future use.
Notably, every youth participant was tasked to fill a commitment form of planting trees and take care of them before recieving the tree seedlings.

Rev.Fr. Paul Mugabyomu the youth chaplain Fort Portal Diocese, said that astheir 5th pillar of the Youth office is about environmental protection and their aim is to plant 2million trees in the 5 years from now.
“To fulfill the aim of this 5th pillar, the trees will be planted in the all 3 deaneries of Kamwenge, Virika and Katosa that makeup Fort Portal Diocese ” Noted Fr.” Mugabyomu.
