There was excitement and joy at Kanara Internally Displaced Persons IDPS Camp in Ntoroko District as St. Charles Lwanga Town Parish delivered charitable relief items collected from Christians during lent season.
The items that included clothes and Beddings were on Wednesday afternoon delivered to the camp by a team led by the Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Baguma, Vicar General Mrsg Isaiah Mayombo, Rev. Fr. Ronald Musinguzi Director Jubilee Radio, Joseph Ruhweza parish Council Chairperson and Rev. Fr. Deus Ndyakira the parish priest Rwebisengo parish among others.
Ntoroko prone to floods
Between March and May 2020 Ntoroko District experienced heavy rains leading to occasional flooding in various parts due to the simultaneous bursting of the Lake Albert.
As a result property including, Crops, churches, and infrastructure both private and government including schools, bridges, roads, and health facilities were completely destroyed.
This also resulted in internal displacement of persons scattered and hosted at various Institutions such as schools and churches. More than 1,200 persons were finally allocated residence at Kanara Primary School land.
Government neglected us- Community cries out
Balikigamba James the chairperson of the Camp expressed joy on behalf of dozens of people staying in the camp before highlighting challenges they have continued to face since 2020. They include, poverty, lack of food, tapelines, diseases, water among others.
According to him they have severally asked government to allocate them a permanent place to occupy but they request has been treated with deaf ears
While delivering the donation Mrgs.Isaiah Mayombo, asked beneficiaries to appreciate and pray for Christians of Town Parish who contributed the items for having shared what they have with otters during lent period
Fr. Emmanuel Baguma revealed that the Christians of St. Charles Lwanga extended their Easter Holiday message to the people of the camp through giving out a little support to the less privileged. He appreciated everyone that contributed
