People with mismatching information on their IDs and their other documents ,could face difficulties with time- the NIRAKabarole District Registration Officer (DRO)has warned.
Following the on going discussions about National ID particulars, Junior Akampurira the DRO Kabarole, has stated that national IDs held by people currently, will be expiring as soon as 2025.
This he says, will usher the whole country into another phase of registration in a bid to renew the national IDs.
Errors on IDs
Akampurira, advises that people with mistakes on their IDs should start on the process of verification and clearing off the errors as early as possible.
Requirements
For as long as the NIRA owns a mistake on an individuals ID, a person is only required to come with confirmatory documents including Birth certificate, Baptismal card, vaccination card among others.
No sum is required of this kind of a person According to Akampurira. He says, this is determined by cross checking on the available data in their computers and that that was filled on the registration form.
Mainly the mistakes are typography errors, or happened when the data entrant was inattentive to an individual.
Akampurira, adds that in instances where a person is responsible for spelling mistakes on their ids, the following is always considered.
A Fee of Ug X 50,000 to be paid in the bank.
Copy of Certificate of Citizenship by naturalization or certificate of citizenship by registration as appropriate
Any other supporting documents e.g. copy of birth certificate, passport, Marriage certificate, academic documents, driving permit, baptism card, voter’s card among others
Factual errors
For factual errors including mistakes on the date of birth, a person is required to have a statutory declaration registered by URSB, a test report from directorate of government analytical laboratory -a scientific means of establishing correct age, and supporting documents like birth certificate and baptism card.
”NIRA is a bit strict in this area because young girls and boys want to travel abroad before the recommended age and take it as an opportunity to add on their age, public servants who want to retire early for pension or prolong service, add and deduct age respectively which is unfair” stated Akampurira
Other issues include adding and dropping a name, clearing mistaken issues and changing names completely which all require a fee of 50,000 if NIRA does not own the mistake.
People waiting to clear off the mess during the next registration phase are miscalculating since the exact data in computers will be used in the renewal of other IDs.
”I advise people to start on the clearance process as soon as today to avoid future clashes” Added Junior.
Most Ids to expire 2025
According to NIRA, most Ids will be expiring in 2025, and the renewal will cost each individual a fee of 50,000 shillings.
The registration expert, noted that the first Id acquisition is free of charge but as soon as it expires, a cost will be considered.
Fort Portal residents requested to pick their IDs
Akampurira, however has appealed to the people of Kabarole and Fort Portal at large to come for their national IDs saying they have over 3000 IDs AT office.
Of these, include those of all people who registered up to April this year, but have always been bounced since the IDs had not arrived.
